Set Up Your Ledger Device
Welcome to Ledger.com/start — the official starting point for setting up your Ledger hardware wallet. This guide helps ensure that your device is configured securely and correctly, so you can safely manage your digital assets with confidence.
Connect Your Device
Begin by connecting your Ledger hardware wallet to your computer or mobile device using the provided USB cable. Power on the device by pressing the buttons as shown in the included instructions. Wait for the welcome screen to appear and follow the prompts.
Choose to Create or Restore a Wallet
If you are setting up your device for the first time, choose the option to create a new wallet. Your Ledger device will generate a 24-word recovery phrase. Carefully write this phrase on the recovery sheet included in your package and store it in a secure, offline location. If you already have a recovery phrase from a previous wallet, select the option to restore a wallet and enter the 24 words exactly in the correct order.
Set Up a PIN Code
You will be prompted to set a PIN code during setup. This code is required each time you unlock your Ledger device. It is a critical layer of security that helps protect access to your wallet. Choose a PIN that you can remember and that is not easily guessable.
Install Ledger Live
Ledger Live is the official application used to manage your Ledger device and access your cryptocurrency accounts. To install it, visit Ledger.com/start and download the version of Ledger Live that matches your operating system. After installation, open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to get started.
Pair Your Device and Add Accounts
Once Ledger Live is installed and your device is connected, the app will guide you through pairing your hardware wallet. You can then install apps for the cryptocurrencies you plan to use and add accounts to start receiving and managing your funds.
Use and Monitor Your Crypto Securely
With your device paired and accounts added, you can now use Ledger Live to send and receive cryptocurrencies, track your portfolio, stake supported assets, and perform secure transactions. Always ensure your device is connected and unlocked when managing funds.
Keep Your Recovery Phrase Safe
Your 24-word recovery phrase is the only backup to your wallet. Ledger does not store this phrase or have any way to retrieve it for you. If it is lost or shared with someone else, you could lose access to all of your crypto assets. Never enter your recovery phrase on any website, app, or computer other than your Ledger device. Never share it with anyone — not even with Ledger Support.
